History

Bosung College, the prototype of Korea University, was established in 1905 initially with the commerce and law faculty. One of Korea's best and oldest tertiary education institutions, Korea University was founded by Lee Yong-Ik, Treasurer of the Royal Household. As an academic institution of nationalistic origin, it was regarded as a symbol of national pride during the colonial period (1910-1945) (see Korea under Japanese rule). Following Independence in 1945, the status of Bosung College was elevated to that of a university encompassing three colleges: Political Science and Law, Economics and Commerce, and Liberal Arts (see Korean independence movement).

KUBS became a separate administrative unit in 1946, becoming the first business school established in Korea with such a long history. In 1963, the college commenced its KMBA (Korean MBA), which is the first MBA program commenced in Korea. Since its establishment and developments over the years, KUBS has been the pioneer of business education and research in Korea.
