Kolachery

Kolachery is a town (and Grama panchayath) situated in the Kannur District of Kerala state, India.

Local administration

Koachery was formed by merging two villages (viz) Kolachery & Cheleri. It belongs to Edakkad block and Taliparamba assembly constituency.[1] The panchayath got the award for the best panchayath in the district in 2015.

Demographics

In the 2001 India census Kolacherry had a population of 15844 with 7584 males and 8260 females.[2]

In 2011 Kolacherry had a population of 17095 with 7847 males and 9248 females; according to the India Census.[3]

Transportation

The national highway passes through Valapattanam town. Goa and Mumbai can be accessed on the northern side and Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram can be accessed on the southern side. The road to the east of Iritty connects to Mysore and Bangalore. The nearest railway station is Kannur on Mangalore-Palakkad line. Trains are available to almost all parts of India subject to advance booking over the internet. There are airports at Mattanur, Mangalore and Calicut. All of them are international airports but direct flights are available only to Middle Eastern countries.
