Name

A former Ottoman fortress existed in the location of Kodžadžik before the end of the first half of the 15th century.[1] Scholars such Smiljanić and Hadži Vasiljević noted that a battle between Skanderbeg and the Ottoman Turks occurred in the area from which the name of the village is derived from the Turkish expression kocacenk meaning big battle.[1]

History

According to historians, the village was mentioned for the first time in 1385 and the name of the village means "Great Battle".[2] It was known Svetigrad or Sfetigrad before the Ottoman conquest in 1448. Kodžadžik is known for the fact that the house of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's parents is located in the village. A Memorial House of Kemal Atatürk is currently being constructed in Kodžadžik.[3] Kodžadžik was the scene of the Siege of Svetigrad during 1448, in which Ottoman forces captured it from forces of the League of Lezhë after sieging it for three months.[4]

Demographics

The village is inhabited by a Turkish speaking population consisting of Turks.[5][6]

According to the 2002 census, the village had a total of 275 inhabitants,[7] all of whom are Turks.[7]

gollark: Would you like me to youtube-dl it for you?
gollark: But for different reasons, apparently.
gollark: On the internet you can't really tell either way so it doesn't matter much, but that doesn't apply in general.
gollark: Hi helloboi.
gollark: "Normies" do, as far as I can tell, actually act vaguely gender-ly.
