Basnet
Basnet/Basnyat (Nepali: बस्नेत/बस्न्यात) is a surname of Hindus of Nepal and India.[1] It is found among Chhetri community.[2]

There are five different branches of Basnets in Nepal:
- The Shreepali (Sripali) Jumli Basnets of Jumla bharadwaja later Gorkha.
- The Khaptari (Khaptadi) Basnet of Khaptad Kaushik gotriya Basnyats later Lamjung and then Gorkha.
- The Khulal Basnets; Dhananjay gotriya Basnyats
- The Lamichhane; Garga gotriya Basnets
