Keith Spurgeon

Keith Spurgeon (1933–1990) was an English football player and manager.

Playing career

Spurgeon played for Tottenham Hotspur, Margate, Leytonstone, Folkestone Town, Herne Bay and Snowdown Colliery Welfare.[1] In October 1960 he was hired as a coach by Clapton, where he also had been used as a player to cover for injuries, on at least one occasion.[2]

Coaching career

Spurgeon was manager of Dutch clubs Ajax from 1961 to 1962,[3][4] Heracles Almelo from 1963[5] to 1964,[6] Blauw-Wit Amsterdam[7][8][9] and AGOVV[10] and he later coached the Libyan national side,[11] the Dallas Tornado of the North American Soccer League,[12] Belgian side K.V. Mechelen[13] Swedish side AIK, Cypriot side APOEL, and Landskrona, also of Sweden.[14]

Later life and death

He died in Sweden in 1990 from motor neurone disease.[1]
