Katok 'A'

Katok 'A', officially Katok 'A' Landless Indigenous Citizens' Housing Scheme (Malay: Skim Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati Kampung Katok 'A'), also Area 3 of Tungku Landless Indigenous Citizens' Housing Scheme (Malay: Skim Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati Kampung Tungku Kawasan 3), is a village administrative division in Brunei-Muara District of Brunei. It is a village subdivision under the mukim or subdistrict of Gadong 'A'. Katok 'A' has an area of 69.15 hectares (170.9 acres) and, as of 2014, the population is 1,776.[1] The community of Katok 'A' is headed by a ketua kampung or village head and the incumbent is Adanan bin Bagol.[1] Katok 'A' is also a designated postcode area with the postcode BE2919.[2]

Geography

Katok 'A' is located in Brunei-Muara District and on the outskirts of Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. The area comprises a cluster of public housing under the Skim Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati or Landless Indigenous Citizens' Housing Scheme, a government housing programme. Although it is named after the original settlement area of Katok, Katok 'A' is not contiguous with it; Katok 'A' is considered part of Tungku, hence it is also named 'Tungku Landless Indigenous Citizens' Housing Scheme' (Area 3).

Infrastructure

Access to Katok 'A' is primarily served by Simpang 355 of Jalan Tungku.[3] There is also a secondary access: Simpang 289 provides additional link between Simpang 355 and Jalan Tungku.[3]

Katok 'A' Primary School is a government school which provides general primary education to the resident pupils of Katok 'A'. It also shares grounds with the religious school, Katok 'A' Religious School, which provides the Ugama or Islamic religious education compulsory for Muslim pupils in the country.
