Karnaphuli Tunnel

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel (or Karnaphuli Tunnel)[1] (Bengali: কর্ণফুলী সুড়ঙ্গ)[2] is an under—construction underwater expressway tunnel in the port city of Chattogram, Bangladesh under the Karnaphuli river. The tunnel length is 9.3 kilometres (5.8 mi) and width 10 metres (33 ft) will cost US$705 million.[3] The tunnel is expected to be completed in 2022 and will be the first river tunnel in South Asia.[4][5] It is expected to improve the DhakaChittagong—Cox's Bazar highway network.[6][7][8] A Chinese company, China Communications Construction Company, was selected to construct it.[1] Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to visit the construction site of the Karnaphuli Tunnel.[9][10]
