Kanchanbari

Kanchanbari is a village in Kumarghat Tehsil, Unakoti district of Tripura state, India. It is located 28 km to the south of the district headquarters at Kailasahar and 91 km from the state capital at Agartala. It has a population of 6,649 people.

  The Kanchanbari Post Office with pin code 799288 is situated to the southern part of the Market. The market is at the center of the village. And DSCMHS.SCHOOL is at the western part of the market. The market is rectangular in shape with two rows running from north to south. There is a Satsangh, Ramthakur Ashram(under process of building) and Tripura Gramin Bank, PHS, TSECL sub division, Hostel, Multipurpose hall and a small hall on the western bank of the Kanchanmala Dhigi. A Tashil and a Gram panchayet is also available. Before the school DSCHSC was known as Kanchanbari H S(+2) Stage School, But now it is renamed as Dhana Singh Choudhury Higher Secondary School after the doner of the land (Dhana Singh Choudhury). The school got fired in 2000, and that was the worst period of the village. And after a long struggle by the students, and proper planning by the teachers, finally the school building was built.

Demographics of Kanchanbari

     The local languages of Kanchanbari are Bengali and Manipuri. Though Bishnupriya Manipuri is also spoken. 99.99% of the total population are Hindus. The Choudhurys were the only Jaminder during kings rule in Tripura. The early name of the village was Sinchu, but now it is known as Kanchanbari. Most of the people are farmer. Some of the notable people in this village are Kamala Choudhury(Jamindar), Dhana Singha Choudhury(Land doner of the school), Gupi Raman Datta(CPIM leader),Lalit Chakraborty (Bramin) and well known teachers are Nipendra Chanda, Sailendra Chanda, Jadu lal Ray, Arun Paul, Jagadish Bhowmik etc. These people made the village by mesmerizing its name. They are born, grown and had worked in this village. Most of the Bengalis are Sylheti and Noakhali.
   Most of the people here are farmers. The government of Tripura must take initiative to grow the agri sector, animal husbandary, horticulture etc in this village to eleminate the proverty in this area.

Geography of Kanchanbari

  The Dupitilla, Tipam and Surma series of land formation cannot be seen here. The Dupitilla series of Landform can be seen at nearby village Dudhpur, West Kanchanbari,Laljuri etc. But in Kanchanbari we can see only quartenery sediments. The Lithology of the soil is Alluvium represented by unconsolidated pale to dirty grey silt, silty clay, sandy clay etc,sometimes with decomposed vegetable matters and yellowish brown, coarse river sand, gravels and concretions.
   The river Manu flows from south to North ward direction. The village is surrounded by river Manu in the eastern side and Laljuri Chherra on the western side.

Water supply in Kanchanbari

   Water from the river Manu is refined and used for well planned domestic water supply in this village. The river Manu also the ultimate destination of garbage and sewage of the Kanchanbari market. The panchayet must take good advance smart initiative to make biofertilizer using the solid waste of the village. And refine the waste water to use it for agriculture.

Banking in Kanchanbari

 The Tripura Gramin Bank is the only bank in this area. The people of this area are suffering here, because there is no ATM machine of Tripura Gramin Bank in this area. The micro finance group active in this area is Bandhan Bank etc.

Communication and Topography

     There are one transport to reach the village. And that is One is roadways. Waterways were there before 1971 but now it is disfunctional. The National Highway no.44 passes to the eastern side of the village. To reach the market you may go from 82 miles or Kumarghat via Batcherra or Fatikroy. Kumarghat Railway Station is the nearest railway station leading to Kanchanbari. Though Nalkata Railway station is nearby but due to improper communication people likes to visit via kumarghat Railway station.
      The village is in a plain area where the river Manu flows to its Eastern part and the river plays important rule in the irrigation of the area. There is a big Dighi (Kanchanmala Dighi) and a Lake (Dhil) near the market. More than 70% of the village is paddy field. The paddy field is located to the west of the market. A small stream named Laljhuri Chhara passes to the west of the market. The irrigation canal flows to the western part of the village. The village has no forest area. Though some hillocks are seen with rubber plantations. The Eastern Part of the village is known as Dudhpur, northern part Taraninagar and Ramnagar, western part West Kanchanbari and homeless and Southern part Masauli and Laljuri. Very little vegetation is seen. Arecanut, Coconut, banana, vegetables, rice, rubber etc are the principal crops grown here. Most of the houses have a pond nearby.

Schools

    The Dhana Singha Choudhury Memorial Higher Secondary School is the only 12-class school of this locality. Science, Arts and commerce stream is available here. Class I and Class II has become english medium school. Presently if you want to go to Kanchanbari School you may be misguided to East Kanchanbari HS (+2) Stage school. So be careful now Kanchanbari HS (+2) Stage school has become Dhana Singha Choudhury Memorial Higher Secondary School.
