Martin has served as Sempra Energy’s chief executive officer since May 2018 and, as chairman, since December 2018.[4][5] In this role, Martin is leading Sempra Energy’s mission to be North America’s premier energy infrastructure company. His early leadership focus is "people, priorities and culture," with a goal of creating a high-performance culture that drives the company's success.[6]

He is a current member of the Wall Street Journal CEO Council, which connects the world's most ambitious and influential business leaders to discuss the issues shaping the future.[7] He is also a member of the Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers of America's leading companies working to promote a thriving U.S. economy and expanded opportunity for all Americans through sound public policy.[8] Martin represents Sempra Energy at the World Economic Forum, serving as a governor of the Oil and Gas community and a governor of the Electricity community.

Martin holds a bachelor's degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Texas, El Paso. He graduated from the University of Miami with a law degree in 1992.[9][10]

Community involvement

Martin serves on the board of trustees for the University of San Diego[11].

Martin supports the Monarch School (San Diego), a public K-12 school exclusively for students who are homeless, at risk of being homeless, or impacted by homelessness. He and his wife Lisa Martin, who serves on the school's board of directors, co-chaired the 2019 fundraising gala and presented a graduate school scholarship to a former Monarch student at the event.
