Jean Robinson

Jean Robinson, CBE; JP; (8 December 1899 – 5 November 1987) was the first female mayor of Blackpool, Lancashire from 1968–1969, after having been member of the town council for 14 years.

She served as a Magistrate in the Juvenile Court and was President of the Blackpool Soroptomists.

She was the daughter of an Ashton-Under-Lyne cotton spinner, orphaned as a child and at the age of 14 was ‘mother’ of a household.

Jean and her husband Noel, ran the café at Abingdon Street Market for 27 years.

She was born in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire and she died in Richmond, Surrey.
