Jaclyn Jose

Mary Jane Santa Ana Guck (born March 16, 1964), better known by her stage name Jaclyn Jose,[1] is a Filipino cinematic and television actress who has earned international critical acclaim. She is best known for her memorable roles in the films, Private Show, White Slavery, and Santa Juana.

Jose's work includes Sana ay Ikaw na Nga in 2002 and Te Amo in 2004. Her series Zorro aired on GMA Network. She has starred in the soaps Babalik Kang Muli and Nagsimula sa Puso.

She and actor Mark Gil are the parents of Andi Eigenmann.

Jose is also known for her notable works with actors Juan Rodrigo both in TV and film adaptations of the Primetime Soap Opera, Mula Sa Puso as the iconic Magda and 1980s films such as "Hati Tayo Sa Magdamag" (VIVA Films) and White Slavery (directed by Lino Brocka) and Anne Curtis in Dyosa in 2008 and A Secret Affair.

In 2016, Jose starred in Brillante Mendoza's Palme d'Or-nominated film Ma' Rosa where she won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress.[2] Jose was the first Southeast Asian to be conferred with the award.[3]

Career

1995–2000: Early works

Jose made her debut television appearance and on ABS-CBN when she portrayed Esther Lagrimas in the hit series Familia Zaragoza from 1995 to 1996. From 1997 to 1999, Jose portrayed the role as the iconic Magda in the original 1997 series Mula Sa Puso. Later in 1999, she made her debut appearance on Maalaala Mo Kaya. From 1999 to 2000, Jose portrayed a main role in the television series Labs Ko Si Babe as Elena Deogracias.

2002–2004: Network switch

After two years on not being on television, Jose transferred to GMA Network after previously working with its rival network ABS-CBN. Her first project was on the popular TV series Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga as Marianna Peron. In early 2004, Jose portrayed a recurring role with her Mula Sa Puso co-star Princess Punzalan in Te Amo, Maging Sino Ka Man as Carol. In later 2004, she returned to ABS-CBN to guest on an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya.

2004–2009: Return to ABS-CBN

In 2004, Jose returned to her home network, ABS-CBN.

During the last quarter of 2004–2005, Jose portrayed an extended role in Hiram as Isabella. This marks Jose's first role as an extended character, minor character, or guest character.

Jose portrayed a supporting role in SCQ Reload: Ok Ako! as Helen Roxas.

In 2005, she portrayed another supporting role in the popular TV series, Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin. Jose portrayed the role of Elena Cruz. The latter gained more popularity for her appearance on this series.

She played Celeste Cristi in the TV series Komiks Presents: Agua Bendita in 2006. Jose co-stars alongside Shaina Magdayao, Rayver Cruz, and Ramon Bagatsing.

In 2007, Jose portrayed another main role in Sineserye Presents: May Minamahal as Darlyn Fernandez.

Later in 2007, she made her debut appearance in the fantasy anthology TV series, Love Spell. In 2007/2008 Jose portrayed a main role in the show Prinsesa ng Banyera as Virgie Burgos.

In 2008–2009, Jose played her very first antagonist role in the TV series Dyosa. She portrayed the character Mariang Magayong. Jose became well known for this role, despite it was her first antagonist role.

2009–2010: GMA Network and TV5

Later in 2009, Jose returned to GMA Network to play another main character in the "teleserye" Zorro. She portrayed the role of Doña Chiquita Pelaez. This will be her last appearance on GMA Network until 2013.

Jose then returned to her home network ABS-CBN to guest in an episode of Your Song in 2009. In the latter part of 2009–2010, Jose was cast to become part of the show Nagsimula sa Puso as Minda Fernandez, an antagonist in the show.

In 2010, Jose portrayed her second antagonist role, in the series Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo as Astrud Quijano Crisanto. She served as main antagonist of the series, the latter was called "The Villain and Killer Influence".

Later in 2010, she made her first appearance on TV5 when she guested on the show Star Confessions: Congratulations: The April Gustilo Confession. This marks her debut appearance on the network.

2011–2013: More projects and Valiente

In 2011, Jose portrayed a guest/episode guest role in the Your Song. She portrayed the role of Delfina. She also became part of the cast of Sabel, she portrayed the role of Bettina Zaragoza.

She later guested on the anthology series, Maalaala Mo Kaya, and the fantasy series Wansapanataym. For her final project in 2011, Jose again guest on an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya

Jose played a supporting role in the series Reputasyon the series starring actress Cristine Reyes during 2011/2012. She portrayed the role of Luisa Alcantara-delos Santos, Agnes's loving mother.

In 2012, Jose made her second appearance on TV5 in the remake of the popular 90s series Valiente. She portrayed Doña Trinidad Braganza originally played by Odette Khan, also the main antagonist of the series.

In the latter part of 2012, Jose returned to her home network ABS-CBN to guest on an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya. Then in 2012/2013, she portrayed a supporting role in Kahit Puso'y Masugatan as Esther Espiritu. This marks her final appearance on ABS-CBN after transferring networks in the later part of 2013.

2013–2014: Transfer to GMA Network

For her first project on the Kapuso network, Jose portrayed the role of Doña Charito Vda. de Carbonel in the popular series Mundo Mo'y Akin during 2013. She made several appearances such as crossover characters, or even a guest character as Doña Charito until 2014.

Jose made a guesting on the gay TV series, My Husband's Lover as Doña Charito Vda. de Carbonel as crossover character from Mundo Mo'y Akin in 2013. She portrays the role as Elaine's snobbish friend.

In 2013, she made her first guesting on The Ryzza Mae Show. Later in that year she then portrayed another crossover character again under the name of Doña Charito, in the TV series starring Vic Sotto, Vampire Ang Daddy Ko, she will later reappear but in a different character, also the main antagonist of the series.

Then the latter guested on Tunay na Buhay to feature her life. Later in 2013, Jose guested on two episodes of the drama anthology, Magpakailanman. Then she portrayed a recurring character in the series Akin Pa Rin ang Bukas as Manang Gilda.

Her final show in 2013 was when she guested on Genesis as Agnes Toledo.

For Jose's first project in 2013, she guested on Bubble Gang as Herself/Doña Charito/Auntie Patty

She then became part of the series Carmela: Ang Pinakamagandang Babae sa Mundong Ibabaw in later 2014, she portrayed Patricia "Trixie" Flores, the main antagonist of the show. Jose then joined the cast of Vampire ang Daddy Ko as Elyvra, the main antagonist of the series.

Later in that year, she then guested on an episode of Magpakailanman and after that portrayed another antagonist role in Ilustrado as Cochita Monteverde.

Jose later again guest on another episode of Magpakailanman later 2013. She then became part of the cast of More Than Words and she portrayed the role of Precy.

2014–2015: Bigger roles and GMA News TV

In late 2014, Jose made her debut appearance in GMA Network's GMA News TV when she guested on an episode of Wagas. She portrayed the role of veteran real life actress Ms. Boots Anson-Roa.

For her final show in 2014, the latter guested on another episode of Magpakailanman.

Jose started off in 2015 by guesting on an episode of Magpakailanman. After that, she guested on the Eat Bulaga: Lenten Special as Marissa. Then later in that year 2015/2016 Jose became part of the cast of Marimar as the remake version of Señora Angelika Santibañez originally portrayed by Katrina Halili. The main antagonist of the series.

She also played an extended role in the show Juan Tamad in 2015/2016.

2016–present: Recent roles

In 2016, she landed on an antagonist role as Stella Montecillo in the afternoon prime series The Millionaire's Wife. She then guested on an episode of Dear Uge. She briefly starred in a new series just after The Millionaire's Wife which is the season 1 of Alyas Robin Hood as Judy de Jesus, the loving and doting mother of the lead role Dingdong Dantes.

Jose currently stars in the series A1 Ko Sa 'Yo as Digna Molina, the main character of the show. This also marks Jose's first leading role, after portraying various roles. The series was dedicated for her Cannes' Best Actress Award. Later in 2016, Jose guested on another episode of Wagas on GMA News TV.

In 2017, she starred in her second lead series as Josie Magpayo in D' Originals together with LJ Reyes and Kim Domingo in the lead cast. Later in 2017, several months after D' Originals, she will star again in the season 2 of Alyas Robin Hood with the same role.
