Jackie Saccoccio
Jackie Saccoccio (born 1963 in Providence, Rhode Island)[1][2] is an American female abstract artist. Her studio is in West Cornwall, Connecticut. Since the 1970s Saccoccio has experimented with randomness in her work. She creates her compositions by pouring oil, pressing one canvas on top of another and pulling them across each other, and scraping through dry paint.[3] In January 2020 her show "Femme Brut" opened in two galleries in New York City. One of those galleries, Van Doren Waxter, has represented Saccoccio since 2008. The two galleries include 30 paintings, prints and drawings. The artist has works at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York,[4] MCA in Chicago,[5] and the Museum of Fine Art in Boston.[6] Among the artists she admires are Helen Frankenthaler, Gerhard Richter, Katharina Grosse, and Jackson Pollock.[7]
Education
Saccoccio received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.[1]
Awards
In 2015 she received the NADA Artadia Award.[1] She also received the Rome Prize at the American Academy in Rome; a Guggenheim Grant; a Fulbright Grant, and a Civitella Ranieri Fellowship.[8]
