Isidore Bethel

Isidore Bethel is a French-American filmmaker. His first feature film, Liam, premiered at the Boston LGBT Film Festival in 2018 and received the Jury Prize in the Documentary section of the Paris LGBTQ+ Film Festival.[1][2] He edited and associate produced Of Men and War, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival,[3] won the VPRO Award for Best Feature-Length Documentary at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, was nominated for Best Documentary at the European Film Awards,[4] and screened at the Museum of Modern Art's Documentary Fortnight.[5] He also edited Grandir with director Dominique Cabrera,[6] edited and produced Juan Manuel Sepúlveda's La Balada del Oppenheimer Park, nominated for Best Documentary at the 59th Ariel Awards,[7] and has worked with Jean-Xavier de Lestrade.[8]

A graduate of Harvard University, the École Normale Supérieure,[9] and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago,[10] Bethel has received grants from the Institut Français,[11], France's Île-de-France region,[12] the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation,[13] and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation[14] as well as support from Berlinale Talents,[15] IFP,[16] Film Independent,[17] and Eurodoc.[18] He has taught film at Sarah Lawrence College in Paris and at Parsons Paris.[19]
