India Runway Week

India Runway Week[1] is among the top three fashion week platform of India and its a biannual trade event which is held specially for young emerging fashion designers in New Delhi, India with Summer edition and Winter Festive edition in a year and Indian Federation for Fashion Development (IFFD) [2] determines the dates.

Initial Story

The first India Runway Week was created in 2013 by Indian Federation for Fashion development.

The event, the India's first complete fashion week focusing on young emerging designers, termed as "India Runway Week," and was created to attract attention away from regular fashion weeks in India. It is also meant to showcase young emerging Indian designers for fashion journalists, who had neglected them.[3] India Runway Week season 1 was a success, and all leading newspaper like Times of India, Hindustan times, The Hindu, Deccan Herald, the Statesman which were normally filled with senior designers collection, increasingly featured these young designers.[4]

The First India Runway Week

In 2013 The Indian Federation for Fashion Development (IFFD) understood the need to promote young breed of Indian designer so that they can get recognition and generate business for themselves, IFFD established one of its own kind fashion trade event which completely at par with any fashion week around the globe. India Runway Week have been seen as the first fashion week completely focusing on young designers in India.

Seasons

  • October 2019, Twelfth season - 3 day event with 30 plus designers shifted to new venue, Select Citywalk. The event also spread the breast cancer awareness in association with cosmetic giant Avon which had a panel discussion about #breastbreak followed by a fashion show where breast cancer survivors walked the ramp for ace designer Anupamaa Dayal. The finale of the event was done by Nida Mahmood. The celebrities walked this season included Vaani Kapoor ,neelima Azeem , Esha Gupta and many more
  • March 2019, Eleventh season - 3 day event with 30 plus designers. The event was opened by veteran Designer Rina Dhaka. Social Activist Laxmi aggarwal walked as a showstopper for one of the show. Many social media influencers were seen at Versus by Versace lounge at the event. Students of Vidya Institute of Fashion & Technology also showcased their collections.
  • April 2018, Tenth season - Collection "The Bride" from www.Pairahann.com showcased in day 3 of the runway week.
  • April 2017, Eighth season - 3 day event with 39 designers and 4 NGO's who works for with weavers of different states presented their collection. In eighth edition of India Runway Week, The opening show was done by young emerging designer Ken Ferns and closing show by Kristy De Cunha.[5] The celebrities spotted at India Runway Week were Swara Bhaskar, Gauhar Khan, Shamita Shetty, Mugdha Godse, Poonam Dhillon, Mr World Rohit Khandelwal, Mannara Chopra and many others
  • September 2016, Seventh season - 3 day event with 43 designers and 2 show directors. In seventh edition of India Runway Week, second show area was introduced named Fashion Brooder Runway. In this season there was an offsite show where supercars like Ferrari, Audi, Lambogini was used. Bibi Russell did the opening show.[6] The celebrities spotted at India Runway Week were Sharmila Tagore, Zeenat Aman, Soha Ali Khan, Mugdha Godse, Esha Gupta and many others
  • April 2016, Sixth Season - 3 day event with 48 designers and 3 show directors. Designer Agnimitra Paul did the finale where Babul Supriyo walked the ramp as showstopper.[7]
  • September 2015, Fifth Season - 3 day event with 41 designers and 2 show directors. Designer Shravan Kumar Ramaswamy did the finale where actress Adah Sharma walked the ramp .[8]
  • April 2015, Fourth Season - 3 Day event with 34 designers and 2 show directors
  • September 2014, Third Season - 3 day event with 29 designers and 3 show directors
  • April 2014, Second Season - 3 day event with 20 designers and 2 show directors
  • August 2013, First Season - 2 day event with 14 designers and 2 show directors

Attendance

Admission to shows at India Runway Week is typically in the form of accreditation and by invitation only.[9]
