History

Idea supermarket in New Belgrade

Idea was established in 1992, with main activity being the wholesale. In 2005, it was purchased by Croatian Agrokor and in the same year, the first retail store was opened in Belgrade.[2] After the merger of Mercator-S and Idea in 2014, Idea became the largest retail chain in Serbia, with over 276 retail stores as of 2018.[1]

Quality standards

A HACCP system for increased food safety is implemented in all Idea stores and "Velpro" wholesale centers. This implementation lasted for more than six months, and was preceded by an intensive preparation process with significant investments in employee trainings and equipment.[3]

In 2013 Idea successfully fulfilled all the requirements for the ISO 14001:2004 international certificate on environmental protection management.[4]
