Hugh Nelson (bishop)

Hugh Edmund Nelson (born 1972) is a British Anglican bishop and former charity worker. Since July 2020 he has served as Bishop of St Germans, the suffragan bishop of the Diocese of Truro.

Before starting ministry in the Church of England Nelson worked at L'Arche London, a charity supporting adults with learning disabilities. From 2012 to 2020 he was Vicar of Goudhurst and Kilndown in the Diocese of Canterbury.[1][2][3]

His appointment to St Germans was announced in January 2020; he was due be consecrated as a bishop in June 2020, but this was postponed to 15 July 2020 due to the coronavirus epidemic.[4] He was consecated in the Chapel of Lambeth Palace, by Sarah Mullally, Bishop of London, the first Church of England bishop to be consecrated by a bishop who is female.[5]
