Its most notable guests were Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh who stayed at the hotel during Prince Edward Island's centennial Confederation celebrations in July 1973.
Canadian National Hotels sold the property to Rodd Hotels and Resorts in the early 1980s. Since then, the hotel has operated as the Rodd Charlottetown, also known informally as the Charlottetown Hotel. Rodd funded a renovation and restoration project in 1999.
