When the Greek War of Independence broke up (1821) a number of locals formed armed groups and supported the Independence struggle in Peloponnese and Central Greece.[3]

In the context of the Balkan War and the rise of the North Epirus movement, the village of Hormova was occupied by Greek military units. On April 29, 1914, Greek soldiers and soldiers massacred 220 Hormovite albanian men inside the premises of the monastery of St. Mary, above the village of Koder. When Dutch General Deever arrived in the country in May, he witnessed a gruesome sight. Reports from Dutch general and accompanying medical team shocked European chancelleries

gollark: I have an old Android tablet which works okay, though I probably wouldn't *buy* one (it was free-to-me in some way).
