Hogg Life: The Beginning received positive reviews from music critics. David Jeffries of AllMusic said, "Originally announced as a three-album series, Hogg Life: The Beginning, Pt. 1 of 4 blows things up to a more epic four, and considering the numerous highlights here, fans will find that well-deserved. Newcomers may be alienated by lyrics that are strictly street knowledge plus traditional beats that come from the hardcore handbook, and yet, when the Thug's cool, Bun B-like delivery is dropped on top, baller music lovers are drawn in like moths to the flame."[2]
