Hell on Wheels (2004 film)
Höllentour (literally meaning "Hell Tour") is a 2004 German film. The US release (with English subtitles) was titled Hell on Wheels. The film is a record of the 100th anniversary Tour de France in 2003 from the perspective of Germany's Team Telekom, focusing on rider Erik Zabel. The film is directed by Pepe Danquart who won an Academy Award for Live Action Short Film in 1993 for Black Rider (Schwarzfahrer).[1]

In 2004, Mona Bräuer won a German Film Critics Award for Best Editing (Bester Schnitt).[2]

Every one of the Telekom cyclists involved in this documentary, including German champion Erik Zabel who gets the most time and attention im the film, subsequent to the making of the film, either confessed to illegal doping to enhance performance or were caught doping by UCI drug tests or paid out tens of thousands to a German children's charity to settle German prosecutors’ accusations of illegal doping. And, Lance Armstrong, not a Telekom rider but referred to many times in the film, confessed to doping throughout his career, again, like the Telekom riders, subsequent to the making of the documentary.
