Lyrics

The song is a protest song, listing in its early verses the way that British authorities have marginalised the Celtic communities of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. It then continues by implying that it is not the fault of England, and that its citizens are similarly being marginalised, before ending with the hopeful message that standing up to injustice will make the country a better place.

Two contemporary politicians are referenced in the lyrics, with "ten long years and we've still got her" referring to Margaret Thatcher, and the verse about Wales mentioning Neil Kinnock.

Chart performance

The song reached number 19 in the UK Singles Chart,[1] and number 12 on the U.S. Alternative Songs chart.

gollark: My teachers mostly just vaguely complain about people not being on video a lot.
gollark: I see.
gollark: It mutes and unmutes the microphone via pulseaudio, so it works for stuff like Teams which are bad and do not support PTT.
gollark: Virtually or physically? I have a neat push to talk script (for linux).
gollark: There is not one, unless the nitro thing hides it somehow which would be weird.
