Ghent, West Virginia

Ghent /ˈɛnt/ is a census-designated place in Raleigh County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2010 census, its population was 457.[2]

History

The community's name commemorates the Treaty of Ghent.[3] On January 30, 2007, a Little General Store (a local convenience store) on 2964 Flat Top Road U.S. Route 19 exploded, killing four people and injuring several others, near the Winterplace Ski Resort.[4][5]

Climate

The climate in this area has mild differences between highs and lows, and there is adequate rainfall year-round. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Ghent has a marine west coast climate, abbreviated "Cfb" on climate maps.[6]
