George McGill (Arkansas politician)
George B. McGill[1] is an American politician and a Democratic who has been serving as Mayor of Fort Smith, Arkansas since January 1, 2019. Prior to becoming mayor, McGill had been a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives representing District 78 since January 14, 2013.[2] He is the first black person to serve as Fort Smith's mayor.[3]

McGill earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Arkansas.
Elections
Mayor of Fort Smith
On August 14, 2018, McGill was elected mayor of Fort Smith, Arkansas after winning 56.64 percent of the total vote.[6] On January 1, 2019,[3] in front of a crowd of hundreds at the Judge Isaac C. Parker Federal Building, McGill was sworn in as the first African-American mayor in Fort Smith’s history.[7]
