Career

Galust Sahakyan was born on April 8, 1949 in Yerevan.

Mr. Sahakyan graduated with a degree in philology from Yerevan State University in 1971.

From 1970-1972 he was a metalworker in the Yerevan Silk Complex. For the next nineteen years he worked as a teacher at School # 30, then as a deputy to the headmaster at School # 94 then School # 153; thereafter he was headmaster at School # 3 and then School # 185. From 1991-1996 he was first the deputy and later chairman of the Executive Committee of Mashtots District Council in Yerevan.

1995-1999 was his first term as a deputy in the NA (electoral district # 32) and he was on the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Affairs. He was first a member of the Republic Faction and later Yerkrapah Deputy Group.

1999-2003 was his second term as a deputy of the NA (proportional system, Unity Alliance) and he was the deputy chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Affairs. He was first a member and later leader of the Unity Faction.

From 2003-2007 he was a deputy in the NA (proportional system, RPA.). He was a member of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs. He was the head of the Republican Party of Armenia Faction.

From 2007-2012 he was a deputy of the National Assembly by the proportional system from the Republican Party of Armenia/RPA.

From June 19, 2007 to November 17, 2008 he was member of the Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs of the National Assembly.

November 11, 2008 - May 31, 2012 - Head of the RPA faction. RPA Deputy Head, member of the RPA Executive Body and Council.

From 2012 - 2017 he was member of the National Assembly (proportional electoral system, RPA).

From May 31, 2012 to May 7, 2014 he was the head of the RPA faction, RPA Deputy Head, member of the RPA Executive Body and Council.

From April 29, 2014 to May 5, 2017 he was the President of the National Assembly of Armenia.

April 2, 2017 - Elected Member of the National Assembly from the RPA national electoral list.

He is a member of the board of the Republican Party of Armenia.[1][2]

Personal life

Mr. Sahakyan is married and has two children.

gollark: Given that they're... physically near each other, presumably.
gollark: For communication between cars, it seems odd to have them all link back to a tower.
gollark: So having anything which works by streaming vast amounts of data all the time does not seem smart.
gollark: They need to be able to operate independently of the network, or everything will go horribly wrong if they go into a tunnel, or there's a temporary outage.
gollark: Honestly it doesn't seem useful for *that*, either.
