Career
Born in 1961, Lippmann started his career at Dynamo Dresden.[1]
In the 1985–86 season, Dresden reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup Winners Cup, with Lippmann having scored thrice in earlier rounds.[2] Dynamo played Bayer Uerdingen in the quarter finals, winning the first leg at home 2–0, with Lippmann scoring the opening goal.[2] However, in a match dubbed 'The Miracle of the Grotenburg', Dynamo Dresden led 5–1 on aggregate at half-time before, in the space of 30 second half minutes, Uerdingen scored six goals to win 7–5 on aggregate.[2][3] Following the match in Krefeld, Lippmann escaped from the team's hotel, committing the act of Republikflucht.[2] Lippmann was handed a one-year suspension from football.[2] Despite Dynamo Dresden's elimination in the quarter-finals, Lippmann was the joint top scorer in the European Cup Winners Cup.
Following his emigration to West Germany, Lippmann played for a range of clubs, including 1. FC Nürnberg and SV Waldhof Mannheim.[1]
