Flosta Church

Flosta Church (Norwegian: Flosta kirke) is a parish church in Arendal municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located just north of the village of Narestø on the island of Flostaøya. The church is one of three churches that are in the Moland parish which is part of the Arendal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built around the year 1632 by an unknown architect. The church seats about 300 people.[1][2]

History

The church at Flosta was first mentioned in historical records in 1467. The medieval church was likely torn down around 1632 and replaced with the present church. In 1735, the bell tower was added. In 1747, the church was expanded into a cruciform design. In 1976, the church was restored and renovated and the interior was brought back to its 1747 look. Over the years there have been several small fires in the church: 1739, 1824, 1980 and in 1988.[3]
