Functionality
Firefox Send allows users to upload computer files, including large files up to 2.5 gigabytes, to the Send website, generating links from which the file can be accessed and downloaded.[3] Users can also set expiration dates or maximum number of downloads for the links.[4]
The service is end-to-end encrypted, meaning only the uploader and those who the links are shared with can view the file.[1]
History
Firefox Send was launched to the public on March 12, 2019,[2] after a testing period that began in August 2017.[5] It was temporarily suspended on July 7, 2020 after reports it was being used by cybercriminals to send malware.[6]
