Fatimiyya

Fatimiyya (Arabic: فاطمیة) is the days when Muslims of the world (especially Shia Muslims) mourn owing to Fatimah al-Zahra's martyrdom.[6][7][8] There is difference of view regarding the date of her demise.[9][10] For instance, among Shia Muslims of Iraq, three days[11][12] and within Iran two days are held as her martyrdom anniversary.[13][14] Within the mentioned dates, 3th of Jumada al-Thani is considered to be more trusted/probable; so, this date is regarded as an official holiday in Iran, and many of people mourn for Fatimah al-Zahra on this day.[15][16]

Muhammad b. Jarir al-Tabari al-Imami relates from Abu Basir that "Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq said that Fatimah passed away on the third of the month of Jumada al-Thani in the eleventh year of the migration"[17]

Time of mourning

In Shiite Islam tradition, there isn't particular time in regards to lament/mourn; on the other hand, the famous titles of the "first 10-days" or the "second 10-days" of Ayyam-Fatimiyya (Fatimiyya days) in recent years has been followed the tradition of the "first 10-days of Muharram" and there is no hadith (tradition) to suggest this point. The remarkable position of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad's daughter (Fatimah al-Zahra), her demise defending Imam Ali and her hardships, are regarded as the reasons behind this tradition between Shia Muslims.[18][19]

Fatimiyya in other countries

Apart from Iran and Iraq, Fatimiyya is held in other countries, too; such as: Pakistan,[20] Australia,[21] Azerbaijan, Tajikistan.[22] There are also such related centers in Europe, such as Germany (the Islamic center of Hamburg),[23] England (Islamic center of England), Sweden and so on.[24]

Differences in date

There have been mentioned diverse reasons as the probable cause(s) of being such differences in her demise date; among:

  • At those old times, the quotation of many historical events was orally—not in written—which can be with inaccurate information.
  • Considering being involved of wars for Muslims in that time, didn't make them to have complete attention to have sufficient care in recording the dates of such occurrences.[25][26]
  • The probability of distorting its precise time by partial individuals.[27]
