Euryphon

Euryphon, (Greek: Εὐρυφῶν), a celebrated Greek physician of Cnidos in Caria, who was probably born in the former half of the 5th century BC, as Soranus[1] says that he was a contemporary of Hippocrates, but older. Soranus also says that he and Hippocrates were summoned to the court of Perdiccas II of Macedon; but this story is considered very doubtful, if not altogether apocryphal. He is mentioned in a corrupt fragment of the comic poet Plato, preserved by Galen.[2] He is several times quoted by Galen, who says that he was considered to be the author of the ancient medical work entitled Κνίδιαι γνῶμσι,[3] and also that some people attributed to him several works included in the Hippocratic corpus.[4]

From a passage in Caelius Aurelianus[5] it appears that Euryphron was aware of the difference between the arteries and the veins, and also considered that the former vessels contained blood. Of his works nothing is now extant except a few fragments, unless he is the author of the treatises in the Hippocratic collection that have been attributed to him.

gollark: Too bad.
gollark: So, I can probably fix this if I make the page rendering step do some database lookups to case-insensitively match things (instead of statelessly generating slugs) and check aliases.
gollark: Also, the way case-insensitivity is done - by canonicalizing to title case - is actually not good.
gollark: Thanks, horse.
gollark: So the public instance has shown me that people care lots about certain minoteaureous features, notably being able to alias pages (e.g. create "bees" as an alias for "bee" such that linking to "bees" actually links to "bee"), and coloring links which are unreachable another color is good.
