Emma Mackey

Emma Margaret Marie Tachard-Mackey[1] (born 4 January 1996) is a French-British actress.[2] Since 2019, she has starred as Maeve Wiley in the Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education.

Early life

Emma Margaret Mackey[3] was born in Le Mans, the daughter of a French father and an English mother.[4][5] Her father is a school headmaster.[6] She grew up in Sablé-sur-Sarthe[4] and received her baccalauréat in 2013, subsequently moving to England to study English language and literature at the University of Leeds.[4] She graduated in 2016.[7] Mackey lives in London.[2]

Career

Mackey stars in the Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education[8][9] as Maeve Wiley, a quick-witted, business-savvy "bad girl" who convinces fellow student Otis Milburn[10] to start an underground sex therapy business at their school.[11][12] Sex Education is Mackey's first major television series. Her performance has been critically well-received.[13] In May 2020, it was announced that Mackey will play Emily Brontë in a biopic which will focus on her early life.[14]
