Else Marie Friis
Else Marie Friis (born 18 June 1947) is a Danish botanist and paleontologist.[1] She is Professor Emerita in the Department of Geoscience at Aarhus University.[2]

The daughter of Poul Friis and Marie Møller, she was born in Holstebro. She earned a Magister's degree in science and a Licentiate's degree in science from Aarhus University. Her area of interest is the reproductive biology, phylogeny and palaeoecology of flowering plants based on plant reproductive organs from the Cretaceous period.[1][3]

- Hans Gram Medal from the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters in 1985
- Nils Rosén Linné Prize in botany from the Royal Physiographic Society, Sweden in 1992
- Rolf Dahlgren Prize in botany from the Royal Physiographic Society, Sweden in 2005
- Denmarks Geology Prize 2011 with Kaj Raunsgaard Pedersen from the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland
- Linneus gold medal from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 2014
- Knight 1st Class of the Order of the Polar Star
In addition, she was named Geologist of the year in 2005 by the Swedish Association of Scientists.[3]
