El Trouk Mosque
El Trouk Mosque , or Mosque of the Turks (Arabic: جامع الترك) is one of the mosques of the Medina of Sfax.
Localisation
The mosque is located in the eastern part of Souk El Jomaa.[1]
History
According to the memorial plaque next to the mihrab, the current mosque is the result of rebuilding an older one. According to some historians, it used to be a Hanafi mosque whose followers in Sfax were a minority and were almost all Turks, hence the name of the mosque. But other researchers suggest that the name of the mosque comes from its builder, Abdallah ben Mohamed ben Yahia Turki Pacha. This plaque dates back to 1706, date of the rise of Al Husayn Ibn Ali to the throne.[1]
Architecture
The mosque has a square shape with 10 meters on each side.
gollark: Hmm, yes, I suppose stars count, so just "not important in large-scale interactions directly".
gollark: The strong nuclear force is much stronger than electromagnetism, but also not important in cosmology because it's short range.
gollark: I mean, irrelevant ones which don't back your claims, yes.
gollark: Oh, and "you constantly just refer people to giant sets of papers and random YouTube videos".
gollark: Also "you aren't using actual evidence" and "you're constantly shifting the goalposts" and "you're not even bothering to explain your claims and just expect people to infer them from random papers" and "you say stupidly vague things and cite papers for evidence because they sound vaguely related".
