Duchess Altburg of Oldenburg
Duchess Altburg Marie Matilda Olga of Oldenburg (19 May 1903 – 16 June 2001) was a daughter of Frederick Augustus II, Grand Duke of Oldenburg by his second wife Duchess Elisabeth Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin

Early life
In 1914, Altburg and her sister Ingeborg were nearly shot while riding in a motor car.[1] They did not realize a bullet had been fired until they came to a stop and noticed it lodged in the upholstery. Although the person responsible is not known, it is believed that it was a stray bullet fired accidentally.[1]
In 1918, their parents were dethroned as Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Oldenburg.[2]
Marriage
On 25 August 1922, Altburg married Josias, Hereditary Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont. He was the eldest son of Friedrich, Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont and Princess Bathildis of Schaumburg-Lippe. Like her own parents, Josias' parents had lost their titles at the end of World War I. They had five children:
- Princess Margarethe (22 May 1923 - 21 August 2003) married (1972) div. (1979) Count Franz August zu Erbach-Erbach (b. 1925). They had two children:
- Alexandra Polyxene Elisabeth Bathildis Ingrid Amelie, Countess of Erbach-Erbach (b. 2 August 1955)
- Franz Eberhard Wittekind Botho Heinrich Nikolaus Georg Wilhelm, Count of Erbach-Erbach (b. 2 June 1958). Married Alexandra, Princess of Reuss (b. 1 September 1963) on 11 July 1985. They have three children:
- Felicitas Alexandra Magita Elena, Countess of Erbach-Erbach (b. 27 June 1987)
- Franz Georg-Albrecht Wittekind Karl-Emich Raimund Kraft Carl, Count of Erbach-Erbach (b. 6 June 1989)
- Franz Konrad Ludwig Heinrich Gustav, Count of Erbach-Erbach (b. 12 December 1991)
- Princess Alexandra (25 September 1924 – 4 September 2009) married (1949) Prince Botho of Bentheim und Steinfurt (1924–2001). They had two children:
- Georg-Victor Karl Josias, Prince of Bentheim and Steinfurt (b. 30 March 1950). Married Madeleine-Rose Gerdes (b. 10 October 1945) on 16 March 1985. They have one child:
- Maximilian, Prince of Bentheim and Steinfurt (b. 1 May 1986)
- Wolfgang Manfred Friedrich Christian, Prince of Bentheim and Steinfurt (b. 17 February 1952). Married Karin Moser (b. 10 September 1962, Vienna, Austria) on 28 November 1994 in Vienna, Austria. They divorced in 2002. They have one child:
- Georg-Victor Karl Josias, Prince of Bentheim and Steinfurt (b. 30 March 1950). Married Madeleine-Rose Gerdes (b. 10 October 1945) on 16 March 1985. They have one child:
- Princess Ingrid (2 September 1931)
- Wittekind, Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont (9 March 1936) married (1988) Countess Cecilie of Goëss-Saurau (b. 1956)
