Devan (actor)
Devan Sreenivasan (born 5 May 1954) is an Indian film actor, television actor and politician who is known for his work in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu language films.[1]

After many second hero and supporting actor roles, he advanced to a lead actor with his films like Oru Minnaminunginte Nurunguvettam (1987), Oozham (1988), Simon Peter Ninakku Vendi (1988) and Aranyakam (1988). His well-known movies such as Vietnam Colony (1992), Ekalavyan (1993), Honest Raj (1994), Baashha (1995) and Indraprasdham (1996).
Early life
Devan was born into a prominent family on 5 May 1954 in Thrissur, India. His father, Sreenivasan, was a public prosecutor and his mother, Lalitha, was a doctor.
Devan completed his primary education at Government Model Higher Secondary School in Thrissur.[2] He obtained a B.Sc. degree from St. Thomas College, Thrissur. And later went on to earn a Master's in Business Administration.
His family has a prosperous Kalari lineage his tharavad is of the elite class. The noted Malayalam film director Ramu Kariat is his father in law. Being a distinguished Actor, he is currently a leader of Kerala People's Party.
Career
He was engaged in several business ventures before starting his career in movies. He started his career as a producer of the Malayalam movie Vellam in 1985, but started acting in films after suffering a heavy loss from the failures of his films at the box-office.[3]
Devan started his acting career in supporting roles, after being approached by a producer at Spencer Plaza in Chennai.[4] His most notable movies are Ekalavyan, Baasha and Indraprasdham. He has also acted in several TV series.[5]
He is also the leader of the Kerala People's Party, a political party in the Indian state of Kerala.[6]
Personal life
He has three siblings, Shobha, Sheela and Sureshbabu. The famous Malayalam movie director, Ramu Kariat, is his uncle.[7] He was married to Kariat's daughter, Suma. The couple has a daughter named Lakshmi.[8] His wife Suma died on 12 July 2019.
