The constituency was created for the 1949 election, the first election in West Germany after World War II. With the exception of the first election in 1949, which was won by the Bavaria Party, all elections in the district have been won by the Christian Social Union (CSU). Bartholomäus Kalb of the CSU, who has represented the district since 1987 was re-elected at the 2013 election.[2]
