Deepika Padukone filmography

Deepika Padukone is an Indian actress who appears in Hindi-language films. Her first screen appearance was in Himesh Reshammiya's music video "Naam Hai Tera" in 2005.[1] Padukone made her film debut by playing the titular role in the Kannada-language film Aishwarya (2006).[2] Her first Hindi film release came the following year with Farah Khan's melodrama Om Shanti Om, in which she played dual roles opposite Shah Rukh Khan.[3] For her performance, she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and also received a Best Actress nomination. Her sole film role in 2008 was as one of Ranbir Kapoor's love interests in Bachna Ae Haseeno.[4]

Padukone's first film release of 2009, the kung fu comedy Chandni Chowk to China opposite Akshay Kumar, proved to be a box office flop.[5][6] However, her next release, Imtiaz Ali's romance Love Aaj Kal grossed ₹1.2 billion (US$17 million) worldwide,[7] and garnered her a second Best Actress nomination at Filmfare.[8] Padukone had five film releases in 2010. The comedy Housefull was a commercial success,[7] though her other four releases failed at the box office.[9] The series of poorly received films continued with both her 2011 releases—the drama Aarakshan and the comedy Desi Boyz.[10] The acclaimed role of an impulsive party-girl in Homi Adajania's Cocktail (2012) proved to be a breakthrough for Padukone and she received several acting nominations for it.[10][11][12]

Padukone found further success in 2013 when all four of her films were box office hits.[13] Among these were two of the highest-grossing Indian films—the romantic comedies Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Chennai Express.[14] She also won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for playing a character based on Juliet in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's tragic romance Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013).[15][16] In 2014, Padukone appeared in the Tamil animation film Kochadaiiyaan and played a bar dancer in the top-grossing heist film Happy New Year.[17][18][19] The following year, she played a headstrong architect in Shoojit Sircar's acclaimed comedy-drama Piku, which earned Padukone her second Best Actress award at Filmfare, and portrayed the warrior Mastani in Bhansali's highly successful historical romance Bajirao Mastani.[20][21][22][23] Padukone's first project in Hollywood—the action film xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017)—earned over US$345 million worldwide.[24] Padukone's highest-grossing Indian release came in 2018 with Bhansali's ₹5.45 billion (US$76 million)-grossing period drama Padmaavat, in which she portrayed the titular role of Rani Padmavati.[25][26]
