In September 2010, revelations about Smail's private life caused him to take an indefinite break from golf until 'at least mid-2011' following allegations from Sato Kurihara about an affair the pair had. Smail claims Kurihara made several threats to Smail's wife and children, and now a legal battle is underway.[3]
