The album charted on both the Billboard pop and R&B charts in 1984, peaking at #181[1] and #56,[2] respectively. The title song, performed by Peabo Bryson, reached #53 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart in March 1984.[3] Irene Cara's track "The Dream" peaked at #37 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1984. Shalamar's track "Deadline U.S.A." peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart in March 1984.
