Creole, Louisiana

Creole is an unincorporated community in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, United States.[1]

History

A post office was established at Creole in 1890. It was named for French and Spanish Creoles, that is, descendants of the European colonists under French or Spanish rule. While the term Louisiana Creole in the 21st century encompasses the large mixed-race population who were descendants of white colonists and African slaves or free people of color, and influenced by French colonial culture, the original creoles were European in ancestry.[2]
