Description

Cotoneaster horizontalis is a short shrub with a spreading habit, growing to 1 metre (3 ft 3 in) tall by 1.5 metres (4 ft 11 in) wide. It is cultivated for its flat, symmetrical sprays of glossy green, deciduous leaves 6 to 12 mm long[1] and masses of bright red berries (pomes) in autumn, persisting into winter. The flowers appear in summer, and can range from pink to white. It is commonly grown in parks and gardens in temperate regions as hedging or groundcover.[2]

Distribution

Cotoneaster horizontalis is native to western China.[3] It has naturalised in parts of the United Kingdom, and may be becoming invasive.[4][5] It has been recorded from Counties Down and Antrim in Ireland. [6]

This plant has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.[7]

gollark: They are calling it pure, even though it is not in fact pure because of IO.
gollark: People *can* make mistakes under some circumstances.
gollark: A function's output depends on its inputs only, and it is not doing I/O stuff in the background like V ones apparently can.
gollark: Compiler errors are fine, stack corruption is unfine.
gollark: > V functions are pure by default, meaning that their return values are a function of their arguments only, and their evaluation has no side effects (besides I/O).This is not what functional purity means.
