History

The Corner Conference has a history of being a very stable conference. It was formed in 1954 and the original members were Farragut, Sidney, Hamburg, Essex, Malvern, and Tabor. Tabor became Fremont-Mills in 1959. The conference expanded in 1960 and 1961 adding South Page, Stanton, Nishna Valley, and New Market. When the Tall Corn Conference folded, the league picked up Bedford and Villisca as well.

  • Carson-Macedonia was a member of the conference from 1986 until it merged with Oakland in 1993.
  • In 1989, New Market closed its high school, leaving the conference with eleven teams.
  • In 2000, Bedford then left Corner Conference for Pride of Iowa Conference.
  • In 2004-05, Clarinda Academy joined.
  • In 2007, Malvern entered sports sharing with Nishna Valley (of Hastings and Emerson) to become East Mills.
  • In 2010, Farragut and Hamburg entered sports sharing under the Nishnabotna moniker. In 2012, Farragut and Hamburg entered whole-grade sharing. There had been discussions with Sidney to eventually form a three school sharing agreement, but no progress has been made.
  • In 2011-12, Heartland Christian joined.
  • In 2013-14, Villisca entered whole-grade sharing with Corning under the Southwest Valley moniker, and left Corner Conference for Pride of Iowa Conference.
  • In 2015-16 Nishnabotna School was dissolved Farragut shut doors completely and Hamburg went k-8.
  • In 2018-19 Griswold School Joined. South Page will no longer have any athletic teams at the end of the year.
  • In 2019-20 Heartland Christian Leaving for The frontier conference in Nebraska.
