Connect Transit

Connect Transit,[1] formerly Bloomington-Normal Public Transit System is the primary provider of mass transportation in Bloomington/Normal, IL. The system consists of 13 fixed routes, plus the Illinois State University Redbird Express, and two additional Express routes that operate on the busiest portions of the Lime and Red routes.

Routes

Connect Transit's buses run every 15, 30, or 60 minutes, depending on the route, time of day, and day of week. Service is offered in the day and evening hours every day, although hours are reduced on weekends. Buses do not operate on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. Basic adult fare is $1. Bus passes valid for 1, 7, or 30 days are available.

Connect Transit has two main transfer centers. Uptown Station, located in Normal, is also served by Amtrak and by intercity buses. Eight routes have one terminus here. The other transfer center is two miles to the south, in downtown Bloomington. Nine routes have one terminus here. The Green, Red, and Lime routes serve both locations. Only the Olive route does not go to either transfer center. [2]

  • Aqua - Downtown Bloomington to the south side via Main and Center Streets
  • Blue - Downtown Bloomington to The Shoppes at College Hills via Towanda Avenue
  • Brown - Uptown Station to the west-side Walmart
  • Gold - Loops around central Bloomington between downtown and Illinois Wesleyan University
  • Green - Uptown Station to Downtown Bloomington via Main and Center Streets, serves Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University
  • Lime - Uptown Station to Downtown Bloomington via the west side, serves Illinois State University and the west-side Walmart
  • Olive - Runs east to west along Normal's north side
  • Orange - Downtown Bloomington to the southeast side via Lincoln Street, serves several State Farm Insurance facilities
  • Pink - Uptown Station to the north side via Linden and School Streets
  • Purple - Downtown Bloomington to The Shoppes at College Hills via Oakland Avenue and Hershey Road (east side)
  • Red - Uptown Station to Downtown Bloomington via the east side, serves The Shoppes at College Hills, Eastland Mall, State Farm Insurance's headquarters, and the east-side Walmart
  • Redbird Express - Loops around central Normal between Uptown Station and Illinois State University
  • Silver - Downtown Bloomington to the west-side Walmart via the southwest side
  • Tan - Uptown Station to the east side and Central Illinois Regional Airport
  • Yellow - Uptown Station to the north side via Main Street, serves Heartland Community College
