History

In May 2009, College Station voters approved the sale of $144.2 million in bonds, including approximately $112 million for the construction of a second comprehensive high school.[2] College Station High School opened in August 2012 with freshmen and sophomores only. A grade was added each year until full implementation in August 2014. The first graduating class for College Station High School was the Class of 2015.[3]

Rivalries

Thanks to the circumstances surrounding College Station High School's opening, the school can be considered to rival three other high schools. The first, A&M Consolidated High School, is the only other high school in the city of College Station. Second, Bryan High School is the namesake school of College Station's sister city: Bryan, Texas. The third and final high school rival is James Earl Rudder High School, which, like College Station High School, is the second high school in its city (Bryan, TX) and the more modern of the two. In effect, all of the College Station-Bryan area's high schools rival the others.

College Station HS Cougar Band & Guard

The College Station High School Cougar Band & Guard program consists of over 210 students in grades 9–12. The band program offers many performance opportunities, such as Marching Band, Jazz Band, Percussion, Color Guard and Winter Guard.

The program is under the direction of Jon Seale, Michael Dixon, Greg Montgomery, Zane Taylor, and Kelly Montgomery.[9]

The Cougar Band is the largest spirit organization at College Station High School. The 210 member band performs at all high school football games, pep rallies, and the annual Bryan College Station Christmas Parade. In addition, the Cougar Band participates in three to five marching contests per year. These contests are generally held the last Saturday of September and throughout the month of October and the first week of November (on state years). Additionally, the Cougar Band has represented Region 8 at the Area D Marching Contest since its inaugural year of 2012. The Cougar Band also hosts its own Drumline Contest in November called "Drums Along the Brazos Drumline Contest".

In the concert band season and once marching season is concluded, the band participates in UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest and/or one or two festivals per school year. Additionally the concert band performs three to five concerts each year.

The College Station High School Jazz Band is becoming one of the most popular musical organizations at CSHS. Membership is through competitive placement audition determining which of the three concert bands the student falls into. The Jazz Band performs at UIL events, TMEA/ATSSB events, invitational events and festivals, and community events. The Jazz Band also performs at special events and school district concerts during the year.[10]

College Station High School supports a color guard program.[11]
