Claremont Colleges Rugby Football Club

The Claremont Colleges Rugby Football Club (CCRFC) is composed of students from CMC, Pomona, Pitzer, Scripps, and Harvey Mudd. The team competes in the Gold Coast Rugby Conference with teams such as USC, USD, Cal State Long Beach, and others. Rugby is one of the most successful athletic programs among the Claremont Colleges, consistently competing for or winning its league and advancing to the national playoffs.

Governance

In the United States, college rugby is governed by (in descending order of authority): USA Rugby, geographical unions (GUs) and local area unions (LAUs) (e.g., NERFU). USA Rugby has established a College Management Committee and a collegiate director, Rich Cortez, to oversee college rugby. The NCAA has no authority over college rugby. Often called a club sport, each college team is administered by either the athletic department or the student club department.

The Claremont Colleges Rugby Club is governed by USA Rugby and National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO), which USA Rugby recognizes and supports as an independent organization. In the past, college rugby competitions have been governed by local unions.[1]

Play and Participation

USA Rugby maintains player eligibility guidelines, administered by the local area unions. Claremont Colleges players generally have five years of rugby eligibility from the time they graduate high school.[2]
