Ciaran McKenna

Ciaran McKenna (born 25 March 1998) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a defender for Hamilton Academical.

Early life

McKenna was born in Glasgow, Scotland and spent time growing up in the Celtic Academy before turning down the offer of a three-year deal with the club to instead accept the offer of a scholarship with Duke University.[1]

Club career

Early Career

In three years with the Duke Blue Devils, he made 42 appearances, scoring twice.[2] McKenna spent time in 2017 playing for Jacksonville Armada U-23 in the National Premier Soccer League.[3]

Falkirk

In January 2019, McKenna joined Scottish Championship side Falkirk.[4] Mckenna made 17 appearances in his debut season as a professional with Falkirk.[5]

Hamiliton Academical

McKenna joined Scottish Premiership side Hamilton Academical in June 2019.[5]

Personal life

Between 14 November 2015 and 27 January 2016, McKenna was accused of rape by a fellow student at Duke University. Duke University then issued a six-semester suspension, which upon appeal by McKenna was increased to a ten-semester suspension, but this was overturned by legal action on a technicality as to the univeristy's "double jeopardy" policy.[6]
