Chembarathi (transl.Hibiscus) is a Malayalam-language drama on Zee Keralam starring Thara Kalyan, Amala Girish and Stebin. It is a remake of Muddha Mandaram, a serial in Zee Telugu.[1]

Synopsis

The story about a rich, strong-willed and stubborn woman, Akhilandeshwari and her elder son Anand's intense love story with Kalyani, a servant working as a cook and how issues spiral out of control to affect their relationship. Their marriage would be the plot of the story and how the pair faces various turmoils occurring in the form of Vilasini and her cronies forms the rest of the story.

    • A rich, strong willed and stubborn woman, Akhilandeshwari is one who expects perfection in everything. She is the mother of Anand and Aravind, and Mother-in-law of Kalyani and Nandana and wife of Krishnan. She is the de facto head of the house. She is unaware of her son's love and eventual marriage to Kalyani. Although stubborn, she can be caring at times and is good at heart.[2]

  • Amala Gireesan as Kalyani
    • A young and beautiful village girl, who is employed by Akhilandeshwari as her home cook. Daughter of Das. She is eldest daughter-in-law of Akiladeshwari and Krishnan. She is dutiful, beautiful and naive but is also strong willed and determined at times. She saved Akhilandeshwari's family many times in many ways. She is also in love with Anand whom she marries later and becomes Anand's wife.[4]

    • The elder son of Akhilandeshwari and Krishnan. Caring and Lovable Husband of Kalyani. He is a calm, intelligent and serious individual who is in love with Kalyani and eventually marries her, without his mother Akhilandeshwari's knowledge.[5]
  • Prabhin as Aravind Krishnan
    • The enthusiastic younger son of Akhilandeshwari and Krishnan and Caring and Lovable Husband of Nandana. He is a lively man who is in support of his brother's love.
  • Yavanika Gopalakrishnan as Das
    • Kannan and Kalyani's father who is employed as the faithful driver of Akhilandeshwari's family who is working there for more than 25 years. He is loyal to Akhilandeshwari for her kindness and He Knows that Aadhi and His Daughter got married.
  • Sajana Chandran as Krishnan
    • Akhilandeshwari's husband. Father of Anand and Aravind and Father-in-law of Nandana and Kalyani. He is calm and patient, unlike his wife.
  • Sree Padma as Vilasini
    • She is co-Sister of the Akilandeshwari. She is evil and Main Antagonist, cunning and always crafts plans to split the family and ruin Parvathi's reputation. She wants to take revenge against Akhiladeshwari and family. She is joint with Jayanthi and plotting against them.
  • Blessy Kurien as Nandana
    • Aravind's wife and Youngest Daughter-in-law of Akilandeshwari and Krishnan. She is a weak-minded woman; initially hostile to Kalyani before her marriage to Aravind, then starts caring for her and empathizing her.
