Charbel Wehbe

Charbel Wehbe (Arabic: شربل وهبة; born July 15, 1953) is a Lebanese politician serving as the foreign minister of Lebanon. On 3 August 2020, Wehbe was appointed as the foreign minister following the resignation of Nassif Hitti. He previously served as the diplomatic adviser of Lebanese President Michel Aoun.[2][3][4]

Personal life

Charbel Wehbe was born in Al-Aqoura, Jbeil District, Mount Lebanon. He holds a BA in Law from the Faculty of Law at the Lebanese University (1979), a BA in Law from the Higher Institute of Wisdom for Law Studies (1979), and a diploma in Mathematics from the Faculty of Science at the Lebanese University (1974). He is fluent in French, English, and Arabic.[5]

Political life

Wehbe held the position of Director of Political and Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between (2012–2017), the Ambassador of Lebanon to Venezuela (2007–2012), the Consul General of Lebanon in Los Angeles (2002–2007), and the Consul General of Lebanon in Montreal (1995–2000), and held several diplomatic positions in the Lebanese embassies in Egypt, the Netherlands, and Germany, and in the General Consulate of Lebanon in Toronto. He holds the Order of Francisco de Miranda, First Class, from Venezuela.[6]
