Loving v. Virginia

Richard and Mildred Loving, the plaintiffs in the Loving v. Virginia case, in which the U.S. Supreme Court struck down all laws against interracial marriage, lived in Central Point. Their community included whites, blacks, and Native Americans. Such mixing was frowned upon by people, especially law enforcement, in other parts of the state. They married outside the state in 1958, were charged in 1959, and won their case in 1967.
