Career
By My Standards's first race was on November 24th, 2018, at Churchill Downs, where he came in second.[1]
He did not pick up his first win until four races into his career, when he won a Maiden Special Weight race on February 16th, 2019, at the Fair Grounds.[1]
On March 23rd, 2019, he scored an upset win at the 2019 Louisiana Derby. He came in at 22:1 odds and rallied in the stretch against Spinoff. The upset win gained him entry into the 2019 Kentucky Derby.[2][3]
On May 4th, 2019, he competed in the 2019 Kentucky Derby. He was placed at 18:1 odds going into the race but came in a disappointing 11th place.[4]. This was his final race of the 2019 season as he had hoof wall seperation.[5]
He returned on February 9th, 2020, in a much lower level Allowance Optional Claiming race and was victorious at the Fair Grounds.[5]
On March 21st, 2020, he competed in and was victorious in the 2020 Grade-2 New Orleans Handicap, defeating Warrior's Charge and Mr. Freeze.[6]
He picked up another victory on May 2nd, 2020, as he won the Grade-2 Oaklawn Handicap. He beat Warrior's Charge again near the end of the race to win.[7]
On June 27th, 2020, he ran well, but only came in 2nd at the Grade-2 Stephen Foster Stakes. W. Bret Calhoun, his trainer, said that Tom's d'Etat had surprised them with his performance and was not going to be beaten.[8]
By My Standards is slated to return on August 1st, 2020, at the 2020 Whitney Stakes against Code of Honor and rival Tom's d'Etat.[9]
