History
As fellow members of the Commonwealth of Nations, the United Kingdom and Ghana conduct their diplomatic relations at governmental level, rather than between Heads of State. Therefore, the countries exchange High Commissioners, rather than ambassadors. Britain established a High Commission in Accra in 1957, Sir Ian Maclennan was the first British High Commissioner to Ghana.
The High Commission also represents the British Overseas Territories in Ghana.
